Substance Use Disorder Treatment: Evidence Based Care for Lasting Recovery

According to the 2025 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, approximately 44.6 million people aged 12 or older in the United States had a past-year substance use disorder — roughly 15.3% of the population. Yet millions never receive treatment. At Ineza Outpatient Services, we believe that every person deserves access to care that is grounded in science, delivered with dignity, and tailored to their unique circumstances.

Our Substance Use Disorder program integrates psychiatric medication management, individual and group therapy, and care coordination. We use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), contingency management, and — when clinically indicated — FDA-approved medications for addiction treatment. Led by Caroline Ndifon, PMHNP-BC, our team helps adults in Stockton and San Joaquin County build sustainable recovery, one step at a time.

Evidence Based Therapies

Our program is grounded in approaches with the strongest research support: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for alcohol and cannabis use disorders, Contingency Management for stimulant use, and Motivational Interviewing to build intrinsic motivation for change.

Medication Assisted Treatment

When clinically indicated, we offer FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine, naltrexone) and alcohol use disorder (naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram), integrated with counseling and behavioral therapies for a whole-person approach.

Coordinated Recovery Planning

We coordinate care across all providers — psychiatric, therapeutic, medical, and community resources. Your recovery plan is reviewed regularly, adjusted as your needs evolve, and designed to support long-term stability beyond the treatment episode.

Navigating Substance Use Disorder Treatment: A Collaborative Path to Recovery

Substance use disorder treatment is not a one-size-fits-all process. The ASAM Criteria — the most widely used framework for matching individuals to the appropriate level of care — assesses risk across six dimensions: intoxication and withdrawal potential, biomedical conditions, psychiatric and cognitive conditions, substance use-related risks, recovery environment, and person-centered considerations. Our clinical team uses this framework to ensure you receive the right intensity of care for your unique situation.

Beyond Abstinence: Building a Life in Recovery

The goal of SUD treatment is not merely to stop using substances — it is to build a life that makes recovery possible. At Ineza Outpatient Services, we combine psychiatric medication management, evidence-based therapies like CBT and Motivational Interviewing, contingency management, and care coordination with community resources. Research consistently shows that longer duration of treatment and combined pharmacological and psychosocial care improve outcomes, reduce relapse risk, and enhance quality of life.

Substance use disorder is a medical condition characterized by the continued use of alcohol or drugs despite harmful consequences. It involves changes in brain circuitry that affect motivation, reward, and self-control. SUD is treatable, and recovery is possible with the right combination of therapy, medication (when indicated), and support.
"Addiction" is a common term, but "substance use disorder" is the clinical diagnosis used by healthcare professionals. SUD is defined in the DSM-5 and ranges from mild to severe based on the number of symptoms present. Using clinical language helps reduce stigma and ensures accurate treatment planning.
We offer evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), contingency management, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically indicated. Our program also includes psychiatric medication management, group therapy, individual counseling, and coordinated care planning.
For opioid use disorder, FDA-approved medications include buprenorphine (Suboxone, Sublocade), methadone, and naltrexone (Vivitrol). For alcohol use disorder, options include naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram. These medications reduce cravings, ease withdrawal, and support stability. They are not a substitute for one drug for another — they are evidence-based medical treatments.
Yes. Our telehealth SUD program is available to adults physically located in California at the time of service. California DHCS permits telehealth for virtually all SUD services, including assessment, treatment, and ongoing care. Sessions are conducted through secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms.
We accept many major insurance plans. The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act requires most commercial plans to cover SUD treatment at parity with medical and surgical benefits. Contact us at (209) 644-9070 to verify your benefits and discuss coverage options.
Relapse is common in SUD treatment, but it does not mean treatment has failed. It is an opportunity to learn, adjust the plan, and strengthen your recovery. Research shows that most individuals who continue treatment eventually reduce their substance use and improve quality of life. Our team will work with you without judgment to reassess and recommit to your goals.
